Personal Liabillity Insurance
If you inadvertently damage items of an other person, or someone else gets hurt by your fault, then the liability insurance covers the financial consequences that may arise. You can use this insurance as an individual or for the whole family. Any guests or staff are included. The damage that can be caused by your pet is also covered by this insurance.
Caution! This insurance does not cover liability which relates to motor vehicles. For that you need a mandatory liability insurance Motorvehicles.
Damage intentionally caused, is not reimbursed. Damages for which you only feel morally responsible, but you can not by law be responsible for it, is not reimbursed.
Damage can be caused by something you have caused, but also because you just have not done anything while action was needed. In both cases, you can be held legally liable and the liability insurance covers that.
With a contents/inventory insurance you are insured against the financial consequences of damage to the contents of your home. Damage caused by fire, storm, theft, eg. an explosion or frost are generally covered under this insurance. Damage intentionally caused obviously not.
What should you look for when taking out contents insurance:
-The insured amount must match the entire (new) value of your possessions. Make sure you are not underinsured because the replacement value of the contents can add up quickly!
-Sometimes insurers impose conditions on security, such as the presence of good locks, a smoke detector or a police label safe living. Usually, you can also get a lower premium when these things are present.
-It may be that for specific values or artifacts a valuables insurance can be taken out, because within the regular household insurance this is covered up to a certain limit.
